In the wake of the Mexican revolution, many Mexican citizens sought ways to make a new living, especially those bordering the US. Due to a highly weakened economy, the peso was nearly worthless. Many artisans in turn began melting the coins down to create crafts, most popular being what is now known as the Mexican biker ring. Meanwhile in the States, brass knuckles became highly illegal and outlaw bikers of the time found an effective alternative by lacing their fingers with the Mexican rings.
